Mornings are the busiest time of the day. You have to get out of bed, work-out, shower, and get yourself ready for work – sometimes all before the sun even rises. And somewhere on that list we need to add, “eat breakfast”.” It’s a hectic list for such a small window of time.

How many times do we run out the door without breakfast, because it’s the easiest thing to cut from the list? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, providing you with essential energy for increased concentration at work.

Liz Lyons, the creator behind Australia’s leading go-to breakfast guide Breakfast In shares her top on-the-go breakfast spots in each city.

Kinfolk Café  This social enterprise café is a stone’s throw from Southern Cross station. The food is good, the mood is good and you’ll feel great knowing you’re supporting local charities.

Operator 25  Tasty meals with an Asian twist plus excellent coffee.

Rustica As aforementioned, bakery/cafes are the best thing since sliced bread and

bread is what you’ll find, plus a delicious, contemporary menu.

The Grain Store  A stalwart of the Melbourne CBD scene, The Grain Store is warm n welcoming place for your morning brew.

Hash  Known for its very grammable hot chocolate (the thing comes with a mountain of fairy floss) and hearty meals, Hash is sure to satisfy all of your Melbourne brekkie dreams.

Pablo & Rusty’s I always find myself at Pablo & Rusty’s when I’m in the Sydney CBD. It’s reliably good and always abuzz with activity.

Regiment The coffee here is excellent. The brekkie menu isn’t huge, but features some real gems. Their smashed peas dish is always a good idea.

The Walrus You’ll be getting some Scandi vibes in this Pitt Street spot. Lots of greenery, and a generous, diverse menu.

Grounds of the City The city cousin of The Grounds of Alexandria is just as glam as its predecessor. It’s also one of only a handful of CBD spots open on the weekend.

Cross Eatery Vibrant Eclectic meals in a funky environment. You won’t be cross you checked this one out.

Garum Buffet fans, drop everything and go straight here. Arguably the best buffet in Perth, served in majestic surrounds.

Henry Little There’s nothing little about the Henry Little breakfast board, a must-order.

Flora and Fauna  Vegans rejoice! A small café with a big heart serving up colourful, tasty vegan meals in Northbridge.

Mary Street Bakery All the baked goods please! There’s nothing better than a bakery slash café.

Duotone Whether you go to Duotone or their Northbridge cousin Open by Duotone, you won’t be disappointed. Well-portioned meals, and a great mix of healthy and less-so.

If you free yourself up some time to have breakfast out, you can clock up some Instagram-scrolling time as well. Bottom line is, breakfast should be a priority.
