With its iconic skyline, busy streets, hikes and food, it’s impossible not to fall in love with Hong Kong. While many still believe Hong Kong to be a place for multinational corporations, its mix of impressive landscapes, food scene and exciting nightlife that make the city so much more.
Food
As China’s food hub from street food to over 50 Michelin star restaurants to choose from there is something for everyone. Hong Kong is home to famous street food bites like braised octopus and fish balls. For Dim Sum lovers, Tim Ho Wan is a Michelin must try. Enjoy dining in the sky? Situated on the 31st – 33rd floor of the stunning V Point Tower in Causeway Bay, Alto is a well-known restaurant and a rooftop bar to watch Hong Kong go by at night while enjoying a luxury dining experience.
For something closer to ground level, Ho Lee Fook is an underground Chinese kitchen inspired by old-school Hong Kong and late-night Chinatown hangouts in 1960’s New York. For the health-conscious Sohofama is an Asian Fusion restaurant which uses exclusively organic ingredients in its range of dishes like Dim Sum, as well as it’s signature soho cocktails.
Activity
Outside the city, there are plenty of hiking spots and regions to explore. Spend a day hiking up Victoria Peak, and with its highest point being 1,300 feet above sea level you will be sure to witness some incredible views.
If shopping is what you are craving, then get ready because Hong Kong offers some of the best shopping experiences in the world. Starting with “Landmark” located in Central, this five-story complex offers an array of brands including the flagship Louis Vuitton store among many other high-end labels.
Once you are done at Landmark stroll over to IFC mall also located in Central and treat yourself to one of their world class eateries, which are often ranked amongst the best in Hong Kong. IFC mall also features over 200 stores, cinemas and a fitness centre so you will be sure to find some way to occupy yourself.
Leap over to Tsim Sha Tsui, and you will find Harbour City, a mega retail precinct with more than 700 stores, 50 eateries
and a fully stocked cinema spread between four levels. Brands such as Bottega, Veneta, DKNY, Anna Sui, Hermes, and Nike have found their homes in Harbour City which is at least a full day of exploration.
Macau
Colloquially known as “The Vegas of the East”, Macau has transformed from a port side town to the Asian hub of gambling and glamour. While luxury entertainment, five-star suites and Michelin Hat dining here is world renowned, having been a Portuguese colony for 300 years the town exudes a blended European and Asian experience.
Chinese temples built on Portuguese tiles, the Cantonese language echoing down the Portuguese named streets. Downtown Macau is home to the Unesco World Heritage Listed Ruins of Saint Paul’s Cathedral, head south over the bridge and you will find the island of Taipa and Coloane, joined by the Cotai strip which is lined with mega casinos.
Whether you love shopping, dining, gaming or getting pampered, there really is no shortage of things to do when visiting Hong Kong and Macau.
